Beards & Books is a Company Limited by Guarantee (LBS), which means we don’t have outside investment (shareholders). All profits are reinvested into the organisation, to further develop and enhance our social aims and support the community.
We are a social enterprise run by volunteers, but we are not a charity. While charities often fund their good work through donations and fundraising, social enterprises often sell products or services in order to reinvest profits.
Both charities and social enterprises can share the same vision of making a positive difference for a certain sector within society.
This means there are a few things we can and cannot do:
- accept donations from individuals and businesses to continue our vital work
- apply for and receive grants
- sell products or services to reach our goals
- accept funding that is only for registered charities
- accept gift aid
